Dartmouth Mock Trial is Off to ORCS!

The Dartmouth Mock Trial Society poses outside of Gasson Hall at Boston College after the fourth round of the AMTA Regional Tournament at Chestnut Hill 2025.

Regionals Success!

Both teams Orion and Pegasus proudly display their new hardware after earning bids to the New Rochelle ORCS.

On February 1st - February 2nd, both of Dartmouth Mock Trial’s teams competed at the Chestnut Hill Regionals, hosted by Boston College. Teams Orion and Pegasus secured bids to the Open Round Championship Series (ORCS)!

Both teams faced nationally ranked competitors from across New England, including Harvard College, Boston College, and Wellesley College. To earn a bid to ORCS, teams had to place in the top six out of 24 competing teams. Dartmouth College was the only school at the Chestnut Hill Regional to have both of its teams earn bids to ORCS.

Team Orion achieved an impressive 7-1 ballot record, securing second place in the tournament. Team Pegasus also had a strong performance, finishing fifth with a 6-2 record. Notably, Pegasus faced the highest Combined Strength (the sum of the ballot records of their opponents) in the tournament with a CS of 21.5 and OCS (sum of the CS of their opponents) of 63.5!

On Team Pegasus, Dylan Griffith ‘25 earned an Attorney Award, and Margaret Bone ‘24+1 received a Witness Award.

Helping Hanover High School Mock Trial!

The weekend after their success at Regionals, Dartmouth Mock Trial hosted a mock trial workshop with the Hanover High School Mock Trial team. Members of Dartmouth Mock Trial spent the afternoon alongside our high school counterparts providing guidance on statements, directs, and crosses. Dartmouth Mock Trial President Dylan Griffith ‘25 said of the workshops, “This season marks the first time such a collaboration has existed and this is the second time this season that we have worked with the Hanover High Mock Trial Team. We could not be more impressed by their skill and commitment. Every time we work with their team—led by Cole and Owen—we have come away better competitors ourselves and are more optimistic about the future of the legal profession. Cole and Owen helped found the Hanover Mock Trial Team a couple of years ago and we commend them on their impressive track record thus far. We can’t wait to see where they go from here.” We look forward to further collaboration with Hanover High!

Looking Ahead!

Both teams are now gearing up for ORCS in New Rochelle, hosted by Iona University, on March 15th and 16th. A top-six finish will secure either team a bid to the National Championship Tournament (NCT) in Cleveland this spring. Last year, Team Orion made history by becoming the first Dartmouth Mock Trial team in 16 years (since 2008!) to earn a bid to the NCT.

To prepare, both teams have an intense schedule of scrimmages, practice trials, and workshops planned, ensuring they’re ready to give it their all in New Rochelle. Program Captain Kavya Nivarthy ‘25 shared, “This Regionals was a terrific one for Dartmouth Mock Trial, and we are coming out of it with a lot of momentum. I couldn’t be prouder of the time and dedication every member has given to preparing, and I cannot wait to travel to New Rochelle with this incredible group!”

We hope to bring more good news after ORCS! #roadtonationals
